Hello Hunters, By now most of you have seen images of the all new 2020 Hunter Scooter Wraith 170cc, some have even been lucky enough to see one in the flesh. All presales have been delivered and the remaining fulfilled orders are on their way across the nation to their new owners.... The Wraith one serious beast that not only packs an aesthetic punch but delivers with an impressive performance upgrade to match its aggressive street presence. This post is specifically for owners who have taken delivery of their Wraiths and are looking to get the maximum performance out of their upgraded motor... With every new Hunter Scooter series created, we have been on the ground at our factory overlooking every aspect of the production line to ensure our scoots meet our high standards of construction. Due to Covid19, we were unable to conduct the QC in person however, with our trusted team we were able to live stream, video conference and virtually inspect every stage of the production line. Since receiving delivery in June, we have been genuinely impressed with the quality of our Series V Hunter Scooter. In 2020 Hunted Scooters HQ dialled it up a notch, replacing the 150cc variant with a new power plant in the form of a 170cc motor which delivers 20% more power and almost 50% more torque. This new setup would have normally gone through some fine tuning at the factory before shipping. As we weren't afforded this opportunity with series V we have been busy testing on the ground in Sydney's Winter climate over the past two weeks. As expected the new motor delivers the desired result with increased acceleration and power however, we have discovered the new motor is hungry for air and requires a leaner fuel/air carburettor setting than delivered from factory to ensure it doesn’t “bog down” when travelling over 80klms/hr. Your scooter contains a number of newly match components that require time to bed in correctly. Following your user manual guidelines for the first 300klms you should slowly accelerate keeping the speed under 80klms/hr and use the brakes gently to avoid squealing and warping of the front and rear discs, but if you ride like we do, you want to know early what your Wraith is capable of… If you are finding that your beast feels like it has more to give but is holding back, here are a few tips we can offer to improve your riding experience. (From July 2020 all Wraiths will have these new settings implemented prior to delivery.)
Steps to improve the top end performance if you feel a lag when riding over 80klms/hr (not all scooter will require this if you are happy with their performance at high speeds)
1. Your intake filter located on the rear left hand side of the scoots comes with an upgraded bracket underneath for strength and durability. During production your air filter should have 2-3 plates which create a breathing intake sufficient for the new 170cc motor replaced creating 2-3 gaps. If you find you only have one plate you can do two easy fixes to allow more air into the carbi to allow the motor to breath better resulting in a higher top end speed.
Step 1: Remove the 3 Allen screws and ensure the plastic chrome spacer rings face each other increasing the gap between them allowing air to flow more freely under high speed load (photo attached)
Step 2: Drill a small hole through the blue cover plate to allow more air into the carbi (photo below).
Step 3. As the new motors were tested in a factory environment your carbi air/fuel mix may have been increased more than necessary for higher speed riding. This is also an easy fix! Simply locate your carbi grab the flat head screw driver provided in your tool kit and adjust the screw on the left hand side of the scooter under the seat pan. Make sure you scooter is running and allow 60secs for the electronic choke to disengage. Once warmed and idling turn the brass screw at the bottom of the carburettor clockwise until closed, you will hear the engine revs change as the motor is starved of fuel… then counter clock wise 1.5 turns from closed until you hear a slight increase in revs, please note do not exceeded 2 full turns of this screw as this will cause your scooter the cut out at speed and as you roll of the throttle.
Step 3 The final step to maximise the flow of air through your engine system and increase the soundtrack on your new scoots….. The Wraith carbon exhaust comes with a removable baffle. This is one of the most satisfying changes you can make to your scooter which will not only enhance your riding experience but improve the performance of your 170cc motor. Locate the rubber stopper under the carbon tip of your muffler remove using a number 5 allen key carefully remove the baffle bolt ensuring you keep the bolt on the top of the allen key as you remove it (note: if you drop it in the exhaust tip use a magnetic to remove it.) Once the bottom bolt is removed, grab the inner exhaust ring with a pair of pliers and pull hard ensuring the scooter is stable, twist gently if cold to remove baffle from muffler.
